I don't get how it works....

So there's this lovely little block available, called Main Content, that says "This displays random content of a content type, or a specific item of content."  The example it gives for the parameter is "download."  So, okay, I get that, if I put in Download, it will show a random download available.

But, how do I use it to show other random things?  What parameters will it accept?  And if I don't want random, how do I use it to show a "specific item of content?"

Can someone flesh this out for me?  I'm feeling rather dense….

As far as I know it only works with downloads, gallery, and maybe catalogue but not sure about that one.
I would love it to be able to work with the cedi, I did ask about it at one time and at the time of asking it could not do it.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

The following content types are supported:
  • author
  • catalogue
  • catalogue_category
  • catalogue_entry
  • comcode_page
  • download
  • download_category
  • event
  • forum
  • gallery
  • group
  • image
  • member
  • news
  • post
  • quiz
  • seedy_page
  • seedy_post
  • topic
  • video

To show a specific item of content, pass an 'id' parameter to the block. For instance:

Code

[block="topic" id="1"]main_content[/block]
would show the Topic #1.

I think thats what he means to but with the #1 does it then only take the top topic. Does it work if I use IPB?

Forum topic, yes. By #1 I mean the topic of ID number 1. i.e. The first topic ever made on the forum. You'd get the ID number by looking at the view-URL of the topic.

The award system is OCF-only as it pulls data directly out of ocPortal's database, not via forum drivers.

SO it should work with IPB.
So how would I get it to show a random topic from the Games forum?

"forums/index.php?showforum=33"
Thats on the end of the url for that forum.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but the main_content block uses the awards system. So I was saying that the forum content-types it can use can only be used with OCF.
