(or sometimes blank screens)

A PHP file is corrupt.

Note that blank screens may also be caused by the memory limit being exceeded.

How did this happen?

The file was probably uploaded incorrectly when installing/upgrading.

How do I fix it?

You can use the 'Integrity checker' option within the upgrader to find a list of all corrupt files. You can access the upgrader by calling up the '/upgrader.php' URL on your site.
Alternatively append &keep_show_parse_errors=1 to the URL (or ?keep_show_parse_errors=1 if the URL you are adding to it doesn't have any parameters on yet). This will allow you to identify the offending PHP file.

Once you have identified which files are corrupt you need to re-upload them. Download the manual installer from the ocPortal website that corresponds to your version, and then upload the files using an FTP client (or by some other means if you prefer).
