When trying to upload a video file to IOTD I got this message

Unfortunately you uploaded some files which we can't resend automatically, so the link will take you back to the front page, but if you then go forward to repeat the action you will see a stack trace instead. Help / advice There is atutorial which covers this feature. Home»Content Management»Images of the day»An error has occurredAn error has occurred The referenced file is not a whitelisted image type.

Return to where you were

As you may notice when you click on the "see a stack trace of this error" you get sent to my front page.

This is somewhat embarrasing to me as I am showing my son, whom I have sung the praises of ocPortal to many times, is letting me use his video.

This is the end of many attempts to upload (and eventually use) the video file. First is was a MP4 at 18M and, of course?, it was too big. Then my son made it into a wmv file at just over 16m them into wmv at 11M and finally the wmv file at 4m.

I am guessing that some of this was the htaccess file which looks like it would allow 16m but apparently it is smaller than this - maybe only 8m?

As to the Whitlist, I used the simple uploader which listed wmv's as an accepted file type.

What up?

IOTDs is images only, no video support.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

It lists, among others, flv, avi, mov, mpg, mpeg, mp4, asf, wmv as acceptable file types to upload when the "select a file to upload' box appears.

I do note it works with the galleries module.

Yes, however this is just the full list of file types allowed to be uploaded to ocPortal, it's not clever enough to know what can be used for a specific upload field. I'll file a tracker issue about changing that.
