All of our ads show in mobile view but the main banner…anyone know how/where to "turn it on"??

I also noticed that banner (l to r) ads do not resize proportional to the noble view, is there a way to make them do so?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Hi,

It's a matter of template editing rather than there being any settings or it being a bug.

A good design involving banners should have separate banners for mobile and desktop modes, so that they match the particular space they are trying to fill. Squashing them or blowing them up is likely to look too unprofessional for an advertiser, and that's assuming it's an ad type that could be stretched (i.e. not an HTML one).

Our default theme doesn't include the default banner type on mobile as it is much too wide to fit. To keep things simple we don't have multiple banner types out of the box.

That means setting up additional banner types, and going through the process of updating the templates to reference those banner types.

If they are going in exactly the same place in a particular template the code would be something like this:

Code

{+START,IF,{$MOBILE}}
   {$BANNER,some_banner_mobile_version}
{+END}
{+START,IF,{$NOT,{$MOBILE}}}
   {$BANNER,some_banner_desktop_version}
{+END}
Where some_banner_mobile_version and some_banner_desktop_version are banner types that have been added and populated with banner(s).

I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Thanks Chris, I didn't think it was a "bug" per se, but just found it odd that every single other banner (aside from the site's main header banner) populates within the mobile view…

That is obviously the "cash cow" space in advertising, so wanted to see if there was a way to enable it since our mobile view share has grown…as always, thanks for the feedback!
