We recently spotted a problem with our website where the contact us messaging, loses the email address in the GUI on the admin screens.

This definitely did work and would show the email below the main message, see below

  With email...

However now this does not show see below...

without email...

Is there any known reason for this. Unfortunately I cannot be sure when this started happening but I am fairly sure it started with version 7.1 I have upgraded twice since then now version 8.1.6 (even updating files and flattening templates - in case this was the issue.) but to no avail.

Fortunately the email addresses that are being entered on the contact us form are being captured at a DB level, however I have also noticed that table that is now being used (where emails no longer show in GUI) differs to the one where they were shown corrrectly.

Hope this makes sense and someone can help.

Regards,

Jon

There was a bug with the email not being saved, but I believed it was fixed quite some time ago.

I just tried to have a quick dig through the repository, and it seems it was over a year ago.

I note you are running an old version of v8 (8.1.10 is about to be released actually).

However, another possibility is if simply no email address was entered by the user. The main_contact_us block has a parameter that determines whether an address is required or not.

however I have also noticed that table that is now being used (where emails no longer show in GUI) differs to the one where they were shown corrrectly

This would not be related. The contact us feature uses forum topics, it doesn't have an individual field to store the e-mail address.

My apologies - I was wrong it is 8.1.9.

However, another possibility is if simply no email address was entered by the user. The main_contact_us block has a parameter that determines whether an address is required or not.

Please see screenshots above these were done by myself so this is not the issue.

Any idea on what was cause of the issue then if there has now been a fix. It does appear this happened after an upgrade - as I said problably 7.1.

Thanks,

Jon

Hmm, you're right. We are burying the e-mail address, which we did not do before. If you click 'View comment topic' then edit the first post, you'll see it hidden away.

I am working on a resolution now.

Yes I had not noticed that as I had not edited the post.

Uploaded the new script and this fixed the issue...so thanks.

Hopefully you will be able to incorporate the fix in that new version you were talking about! :P

Gifted you 10.

I've just done this for you. Above was for v8.

I should clarify that I can see the email address on the Admin Page but not in the "Contact Us" Forum section.

That's as per design. It shows in the admin page only.
