Well-settled

I'm looking to find a way to edit the layout of the block: Forum news display (main_forum_news) so as to change the layout of the elements.

Currently, the block displays all the following on a single line -

Topic of post - Date/Time of post - Member posting

This is causing this block to display wider than I prefer (squeezing an adjacent block more narrow than I'd like)

I'd like to edit the template of this block so that each post displayed is on two lines as -

Topic of post
Date/Time of post - Member posting

If anyone knows where to begin to make this change your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey HSL! Would something like this be helpful for your project? It's the main_news block, but I'd bet we could hack up the forum news block to do something similar…

Hello SD.

That certainly looks good! I wish I was 'code smart' to help out here, all I can do is suggest though :'(

Thanks again for your useful suggestions. The block referenced in my first post could even keep the elements on a single line (topic/date-time/username) if it could lay beside an adjacent block at 50% width, but when I tried a side-by-side using the forum topic block and recent galleries block, the forum topic block squeezed the recent gallery block so the ratio looks disproportionate.

Not a biggie currently, but if blocks could be corrected for the amount of page width they take when side-by-side, that would be great. Thanks again.

You might review the Topic, Getting two blocks on one line. Also it is helpful to use the Firefox extension Firebug to see what may be causing the layout irregularity …it may be as simple as adjusting the % width of the block or modifying the margin. Cause and effect, trial and error, it's all 'fun'.
