install.php?step=5 not succeeding

The licence must be agreed to. If you did agree to the licence, then you may be running the installer from a URL that does invisible redirections that cause form data to be lost. Try variants of the installer URL with and without www. in it - if problems still occur, contact your web host.

I am agreeing to the license and have also tried different browsers and using the www. and not using it.

Each time after I click proceed on step 4, it thinks for a minute then I get a blank page. If I reload that page (install.php?step=5) it then gets the above error.

Help!

Hi,

This is almost certainly a server problem – please contact the web host.

I tried a fresh install and have these issues myself. I can still install 4.2.2. just fine on a fresh install, so will be sticking with that I guess.

Edit: I will also add that it hangs first. Only when I reload does it happen. Otherwise it just sits and sits and sits on step 5 and does nothing.

I decided to let it hang and after 5+ minutes, this execution time error came up:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 180 seconds exceeded in /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/xxxxxxxx/install.php

An error has occurred

PHP [1] Maximum execution time of 180 seconds exceeded

Here is the stack trace:

Below is a stack trace revealing the state the software was in when the error occurred. If this represents a bug in the unmodified software, you may want to check ocPortal website for a fix, and if there isn't one, report this as a bug. Please note that merely posting a stack trace is not sufficient for us to solve your problem; the stack trace is just an aid that presents us with additional information. We still need to know the error message, what you tried to do, how you tried to do it, version numbers, and any other appropriate information.
We apologise for this problem and if it's a bug we hope you will work with us so that we can fix it for you promptly.

Thanks for testing that Eric. With step 5 your server probably needs a lower number of files to transfer (that's one of the options).

Hey Chris,

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I to had the same problem as those above so I tried dropping from 1000 to 500 and that time it stopped after about 3 minutes with a blank white page. The next time I dropped it down to 100 and this time I got to the next page where it appeared to be transferring files, I got to the 3rd or 4th one that said 401 to 4060 and it hung again. I am still trying but please note I have installed this 20 or 30 times in the past with no problems at 1000 per cycle. Something has changed with this version that is hanging for some of us.

Thanks again for all you do,

Rick Henson

Well I continued my testing and when I did 50 per cycle I got to:
"Files successfully transfered and CHMODed (451 of 4060)" at which point I got the error:
"Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 180 seconds exceeded in /home/mannainf/public_html/install.php on line 9696"

I then tried to drop down to 10 per cycle and got to:
"Files successfully transfered and CHMODed (481 of 4060)" at which point I got the error:
"Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 180 seconds exceeded in /home/mannainf/public_html/install.php on line 9697"

Please note that each time I started over I did clear all the files from the site and ensured the data base was also clear. so somewhere right around 481 something is hanging. I might try to go down to 1 per cycle to narrow it down further but that would take forever. If I do I will let you know the results.

Same issues as Rick above. Pretty sure an upgrade will be fine, but I want to first make sure I can get a clean fresh installation up and running before I upgrade lower grades.

Well I dropped it down to 1 per cycle and it took a few hours for it to get to "Files successfully transfered and CHMODed (486 of 4060)" and then hung with a blank screen. So it seems at file 486 something is not right. I was using the direct FTP option, I will try downloading the file and doing it manually to see if that makes a difference.

Hi all,

It would seem I misjudged the first post. There are a lot of bad hosts out there that have broken systems or crush too many users on their servers, so I thought this was just the problem here.

I would appreciate it if someone could submit a (free) support ticket with all the details I'd need to install ocPortal on a server. I'll make sure it gets installed and fix any problem there is.

I was unable to install the thing doing quick install, as it would always get stuck at step 5.  Upon downloading and uploading everything manually and chmoding everything manually it installed fine.

I contacted my host provider, waiting their reply.

I inform how it went.

I know, this is stupid question, but that support ticket, do i need to buy them first, or how i submit it for free?

If my host provider can't solve this problem, i hand it to you, Chris :)

Okay, this problem is absolutely my fault, and not a server problem.

It looks like this bug affects everyone using the quick installer for a first time install, but existed through some of the RC's also. So we didn't pick up on it because unfortunately we only tested using the quick installer running over an existing install, and didn't do a final test as we hadn't made any changes on that final release (and unfortunately noone had spotted/reported it before then).

Very embarrassing, sorry for the inconvenience.

I am now going to release 4.3.1 which will have the bug fixed.

The manual installer of 4.3.0 does not have the bug.

Tried the new installer and received the same error.

So, I dropped the ftp setting right down to 20 (i had previously tried 1000, 500, 100) and it worked fine. Took ages but at least it worked!

I use 'hostican', not sure if they're a good host for ocportal or not.

Thanks

Aargh, im feeling like super "trouble maker"……  Installer won't start, this is what occurs in error box:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>406 Not Acceptable</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Not Acceptable</h1>
<p>An appropriate representation of the requested resource /install.php could not be found on this server.</p>
<p>Additionally, a 404 Not Found
error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.</p>
</body></html>

Tried quick, manual and actually i tried all options in download page.

Any other having similar, or know how i fix it?

BTW: no reply from my hosting provider yet..
