Attempting to upload images and files to the Downloads and Galleries (root or art) on my site, I get an error page after clicking the "Add image button" or the "Add new download" button.

Code

You did not fill in all fields on the form correctly.
Even though the form is completely filled out when I go back to check.

What web browser are you using? Does this always happen?

Yes, it always happens when uploading to the Galleries or the Dowloads. It does the same thing in IE and in Firefox.
Also, I don't have any problems uploading attachments.

Ah good. A fix, because I was just going to ask this question…

Ok, I opened the file, and its exactly what the edit is. I have 3.0.3, so im guessing it was fixed from .2–>.3, but its still causing me to have this issue. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

And none of the fields on the form get marked as not filled in after the error popup?

What browser and what browser version?

No, I filled in the title, the URL for the file, the size of the file, and teh descrption. But it still gives me the "You did not fill in all fields on the form correctly." error. If I try to upload the file, nothing happens, it just times out, especially if the file is over like 500kb.

Firefox 1.5.0.4, the latest. I will try with IE 7, see if it makes a difference.

EDIT: Nope, doesnt work with IE 7 either. Oh and I would rather the link work as I already have all the files I want uploaded to the server, and this only lets 2mb to be uploaded, when I have files above 10mb. So if there is a fix for the link, please let me know.

This is exactly what I fill in for a link (that gives me error):
Name
Category
URL
Size
Author
Description (top box)
I leave everything else the same except the cost.

For a file upload (which just times out and doesnt even give me a page error)
Name
Category
Upload
Author
Description
Everything else the same except cost.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Thanks agin.

Thanks for the thorough report.

Confirmed and fixed:
ocPortal - Entry: Adding a download gives an error, if done by URL

As a sidenote, if you haven't already, try renaming recommended.htaccess to .htaccess, as this has settings that (on most servers) will override PHP's measily default upload limits.

I've tested the fix again and it's working for me. Could you try again, making sure the code fix is applied. It's actually got two new brackets there. The old code unravelled as:

Code

if (
      (!array_key_exists('file',$_FILES)) ||
      (
         !array_key_exists('tmp_name',$_FILES['file']) ||
         ($_FILES['file']['tmp_name']=='')
      ) &&
      (post_param('url','')=='')
   )
and the new as:

Code

if (
      (
         (!array_key_exists('file',$_FILES)) ||
         (!array_key_exists('tmp_name',$_FILES['file'])) ||
         ($_FILES['file']['tmp_name']=='')
      ) &&
      (post_param('url','')=='')
   )

Ahh, its layed out differently. I will deffinatly try again, no bothers.

Ill report back. Thanks for continuing to try.

EDIT: Good job. This new one worked perfect. You should fix the tutorial though, on that page. It needed to be spread out rather then on the one line, 411. I have it like this, and this is how it works.

Code

409  if (!has_specific_permission(get_member(),'draw_to_server')) $copy_to_server=0;
410
411      [b]if (
412      (
413         (!array_key_exists('file',$_FILES)) ||
414         (!array_key_exists('tmp_name',$_FILES['file'])) ||
415         ($_FILES['file']['tmp_name']=='')
416      ) &&
417      (post_param('url','')=='')
418   )[/b]
419      {
420         user_clean_exit(do_lang_tempcode('IMPROPERLY_FILLED_IN'));
421      }
422
423      $url=get_url('url','file','uploads/downloads',1,OCP_UPLOAD_ANYTHING,false,'','',
           $copy_to_server==1);
424      $original_filename=$url[2];

Ok, nvm. I guess it just needed time to update itself. It seems to be working beautifully now. Excellent!

Oh and I changed .htaccess to recommended.htaccess again because I continued to get 500 errors, internal errors. But this seems to work pretty close.

I know this doesnt have to do with the first post, but it does have to do with the download system…

Do you think you could make a place where a license could be added? So like when they click download, they have to accept to a license agreement before downloading it. Is that possible?

Thanks.

It's likely yes, but this sounds a good place for an addon. It's rare that a suggestion would make it right into the next major version of the software, based on us having 100s already.

This is a good thread lol. Should become a FAQ about the downloading system.

Ok, is it possible to make the files more anti-hotlinking? I find if I use GetRight, I can see the exact url of the file, so like: www.thecompletets.com/files/files/files/file.rar. It should just say: www.thecompletets.com. Thats it, and that would be perfect. I REALLY need to have the privacy of these files when people are downloading.

I hope i dont bother you…and I hope this isnt another big addon project….I jsut really need some of these things to be working right before I can open it to the public…thats the only reason why im being picky…

Thanks again.

I hate to not to answer your questions, but you're asking for support, and you're not a customer. ocProducts can't afford to personally answer everyone's questions when only a small percentage of the percentage who finish their sites, register.
Others are welcome to answer, or you're welcome to to look into it yourself, or register.

Well, I would probably purchase this thing a little while down the road, if I was to make some money from donations and ads that I will be putting on my site...but, not to be rude ofcourse....the way I feel right NOW, I wouldnt buy it. I will be using it, because its good....but there are just some big things (like that anti-hotlinking which I guess wont be answered) that I need to have (those addons i dont really NEED)....and im not sure if its because im NOT registered or something, but from the way I feel, even if I did pay the outragous price of $150 dollars, I cannot be sure I would get any better support...it will still be all the same people on here...and from what it sounds like, because you guys are soo backed up in submissions, it wouldnt matter if I was a paying customer or not..you would just say please wait, we will add this to our never ending list of stuff to do....

Im all set with that. I will not be paying 150 bux out of my pocket just to be told h/o, we will get that done as soon as we can (months and months later).

I will try to figure out this c.r.a.p on my own. And if it just doesnt seem to work out then I wont be using it...just because I cant get a few of my questions answered without being yelled at about how im not a paying customer. Its sad really, its a very decent portal. I thought you wanted to go UP in popularity. But not with this kind of support.

Thanks and no thanks.

I'm not going to get into an argument about this. Instead I'll just say one economics fact that will hopefully show you why we have to do things as we do and close this topic.

If we spend 30 minutes helping each prospective customer, based on a normal industry salary, and 10% of those prospects register, then we've already lost that entire "outrageous" $150 registration price in salaries answering those questions. That doesn't include the huge investment cost in writing and maintaining 100,000 lines of code and 100s of images and 100 tutorials, the 3 hours of custom-programming time we give to customers, the official support we give (via our support ticket system), as well as server costs, legal costs, business costs, advertising costs, research costs, and many other costs any business has to pay.

There is huge value in just the software alone. But then we do add a service on top of it also.

You were not 'yelled at'. Chris was simply stating that although he would like to help you, what you're requesting is beyond the level of support given to our free-users. If we were to give you more advice on the subject in discussion, then it wouldn't be fair on our registered users because they have paid for such support.
All feature suggestions are listened to, and discussed, by ocPortal's developers, so please don't stop suggesting them! We appreciate that the product may not have the exact features you desire, but we hope you too appreciate that not all suggestions can be converted into reality for inclusion in the product.
If any of our users want to make an addon, we will of course publish it for other users to download and enjoy. We also offer custom programming to our users - as Chris said, registration includes 3 hours of custom programming. Please do not reject the software just because you feel you've had a bad experience with our free version!
