Stumped

Greetings!
I have an installation of OC Portal that is ready to go, but when I point the domain pointer to it, it will bring up anything but the site.

if I go to the domain name http://www.growingourownnaturally.info/ it goes to the apache default page.

http://www.growingourownnaturally.info/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi

Trying a specific page like /index.php it goes to the hosting company domain/index.php and does a 404.

I can upload a test page http://www.growingourownnaturally.info/testindex.html and it works fine.

I have tried subbing in the text from the recommended htaccess and no joy. I tried putting DirectoryIndex index.php into a blank htaccess file and no joy. I put a rewrite in and the best that I could do was getting the apache default page.

What is the right way to get the domain to resolve into the site?

You'd best open a ticket with your webhost. I'm not sure what weird config they may have in place to be honest. I'd be interested to hear what they say.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

After some back and forth with Site 5 level 2 support we established that the domain was pointing to the folder. By subbing in an index.html page it resolved and showed the page. Going back to an index.php it would not resolve.

I made a copy in a different folder and it would not resolve. Again the index.html would. I used Softalicious and set up a virgin install, and the domain name would not resolve to that either.

Over the course of the day I tried a variety of fixes with no results. One that went bad was upgrading to the latest version, which brought a critical error stack overflow, and so on. I see that there is a hot fix for that, but I have no idea how to install it. This is getting a little frustrating.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If index.html works but not index.php then it looks like Site 5 have have not properly configured php on that server.

This definitely looks like your hosts problem and not yours.

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S / Galaxy S II ? If so, why not check out my ScreenFree FM Radio .

Applying the hotfixes are as simple as downloading then uploading the files in the hotfix and overwriting the ones on your server.
