It would be good if the cron job output a message that it completed successfully so you could at least track successful completions my email, if concerned.

Or, the timestamp in the admin status are should have time as well as date. Someway of knowing that it's working.

I'll admit to being a little paranoid after this morning but I think either (or both) of these suggestions make sense. Help the site owner know what's going on.

Just my thoughts.

I know it's not exactly what you're asking for, but this OcCLE command will tell you what you need to know:

Code

:echo get_timezoned_date(get_value('last_cron'));

Output messages aren't made as if it is set e.g. every 5 minutes, the admin's email gets spammed badly.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks Chris, that works fine.

Would I be able to put that at the end of cron_bridge.php to generate the output in an email?

I know what you are saying about the relentless notifications but I figured that once I had confidence it is working okay, I'd just redirect output to /dev/null.

I still think you should consider including the time as part of the datestamp that gets written to the To Do list item in the admin status area. That way, mere mortals wold not need to mess with ocCLE.
