I need to do a different background for side menus then the background that displays on all the boxes using STANDARDBOX_CLASSIC.

I think somewhere between 6.1.1 and 7.1 there was a change to STANDARDBOX_CLASSIC as I used to be able to have a different background image on the side menu boxes and not have it propagated also to numerous other boxes through out several zones.

I know there are ways to have the CSS display for one thing but not another but I am having trouble figuring out how to do it

…any suggestions? This is the current CSS code for STANDARDBOX_CLASSIC

Code

.standardbox_classic {

    margin: 0;

    /* Want to change the tiled background?
        Try this Google search to get image ideas http://www.google.co.uk/search?tbm=isch&q=tile+background
        Find how to edit the referenced "block-background" theme image by doing an Admin Zone search for "block-background"
    */
    background: url('{$IMG;,block-background}') #eaeff6; /* {$,wizard, 100% ocf_row2} */
}

Hey there Friendly!

Hava hover over your menu with Firebug and you should see something like this (the menu I've taken this from is entitled "Your Stuff"):

Code

<div id="Your_Stuff" class="standardbox_classic standardbox_t_panel" style="height: auto; width: 100%">
Note the id tag. You should be able to customize your background with a CSS entry something like this:

Code

#Your_Stuff .standardbox_classic {
background: url('{$IMG;,block-background}') #eaeff6;
}
or

Code

#Your_Stuff .standardbox_classic {
background-image: url("{$IMG,background_image}");
}

Thanks SD :) The side menu is made up of different blocks so won't I have to go into the individual side block template and add the Your_Stuff div to it? or do you think I can just add a Your_Stuff container box to the side menus in edit mode?

My pleasure mate! The example I provided is geared towards individual styling, per menu basis. The panels have an id as well (panel_right and panel_left), so if you are looking to make a background change to all menus on a certain panel, substitute either one of those in place of Your_Stuff, something like:

Code

#panel_right .standardbox_classic {
background-image: url("{$IMG,background_image}");
}

The div id's are auto-generated based on the title of your menu.

I think I may have been making this harder on myself than it had to be.

Mostly it was the standardbox_classic image and background color that was messing up my theme. So I commented out the image background and made the standardbox_classic background color transparent.

Then all I had to do was add a background to the standardbox_t_panel. Happy now.
