Hi.
Does anyone have any info regarding how to utilise another db with existing members in for this system?
I have converted an old access db to mysql with a total of some 1500+ members and their details.
I really would like to have all their details within ocportal now, but am a bit stumped as to how to go about it.
Obvoiusly the fields are different and include some others which were used in the previous app but exclude some required here.
My existing db contains all the fields I need to make this new application function as it should for me.
Any help would be gladly received :-)

Cheers

what system did you convert from?

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Hi
I did have this set up and running locally with boonex dolphin. It was working just fine but I discovered that dolphin just wasnt up to the job, nice app but had too much dating stuff to contend with.

So I have a mysql db single table with all my members details in and I would like to merge this somehow.
Any ideas?

Cheers

I have used dolphin and did not care for its lack of features as well.
I am not sure of a converter.

We don't currently have an ocPortal importer for Dolphin, so it's not possible at the moment. One would have to be custom-coded.

Ok thank you for your replies.
We can forget about dolphin now as I have managed to convert my db just to one 'members' mysql table.
The table has all my members details in and I would like to add my own custom fields to the ocportal registration system and then somehow call this data where needed within the site.
So the next question is, can I merge or somehow use my table with ocportal.
I havent got the foggiest which tables have relationships or dependancies with, on, to or which.
I will need to alter the registration process to capture the extra info I need from my members and also some areas where this extra info will be displayed.

Any help on the above would be greatfully received.
Cheers ;-)

You could do what I did at one time.
Pre Register every one and send each one a different password using a random password generator.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Hi Amichan
Thanks for that.
I presume then that you suggest I make the changes to the registration process first, and then add each member using their details from my db?
Seems like a reasonable idea, its just that I have several thousand members :-| It would take rather a long time, had hoped there would be some way of setting up an sql statement to do the job.
Like add fields blah, blah, blah then add all the relevant details using input and update kindof???

Cheers ;-)

I do wish an easier way existed as well but at this time the way I suggested should work fine. I will how ever look for a better way if you like.

I would like to add my own custom fields to the ocportal registration system and then somehow call this data where needed within the site.

That's supported through OCF's custom profile fields. If you're not using OCF as your forum system, you'd have to look for similar functionality in whichever forum system you are using.

So the next question is, can I merge or somehow use my table with ocportal.

Again, a custom script would have to be written, although trimming your database down to one members table would make this script a lot easier to write. If you open a support ticket I might be able to write you such a custom script on a consultancy basis, as I've got some free time at the moment.
