Customizing User Registration

Hi everyone,

I discovered ocPortal yesterday and am very impressed. I am interested in customizing the user registration to just e-mail, password, and security image. I want the username = email, so people can sign in with their email and not have to remember a new username.

How would you recommend doing this?

I am knowledgeable in HTML, CSS, some PHP, and a little SQL.

Because usernames are displayed everywhere (i.e. blog entries, forum posts, etc.) you would end up having to show the users emails instead which is just going to open them up to a lot of spam.

I don't think many people would be willing to accept that.

You make a really good point. I just checked Apple Support Communities, and they even require people with Apple IDs to create a username to post in discussions.

So, I'm going to go ahead and have usernames in registration.
