Interesting…what version are you using? I tried this here and had no problems. Attached is screenshot of my custom comcode. The only two differences I can see are:

  1. I used lowercase on the tag
  2. I don't use the wysiwyg editor

Yes, a whisper is a form of PM and will work AOK for our purposes. Hang in there with OCP, you won't be disappointed! I'm heading out for the evening, however, I'll take a peak in the am and see what I can find.

Personal Topic is the exact same thing as a Private Message but better.

Inline Personal Posts are whispers within the topic. This helps in case you want to talk to someone else in private about a specific post. You won't have to reference it because you're replying to the post but in private. It comes in handy a lot.

Thank you for explaining this to me,
but after I really concentrated I think then I understood, This CMS way of handling a PM (whisper) is truly novel, but I see all my future past/members getting confused as I was and I am sure that if they knew that an admin can view PM's ( Whispers) they will not use this feature. Sorry but that's the truth I like OCP but IDK I'll continue to try to like it.

Hey Violative! Righto, all good to go. Hava peak at this page: Home of Proteamclan - Proteamclan It appears to be a case sensitivity issue so going forward, try to use lowercase in your custom tags.

As for the PM: further to Eric's post, if your users are used to the "standard" method of PM'ing, OCP supports that too. Click on a persons username then select "Start Personal Topic", good to go.

As for admin's reading: this is a butt covering feature for yourself as the administrator of a site. And truth be told, doesn't matter what the software (CMS wise), if one has access to the database and the posts aren't encrypted then the PM's can be easily read on any of the other packages anyway. From a privacy perspective, just make sure you are the only one on the site with Admin level privileges and you should be AOK.

Be well, TR

If an admin knows how to do it right, they can read any private message from any CMS.  ;)

But as SoccerDad said, just start a new Personal Topic with a member and it treats it like a Private Message like any other CMS (but better).

Ok. I understand its a new and awesome way you guys are applying ways for the PM,s

But it's still comfusing my members are usally in their teens and my older members where teens too, but they have grown up (been like this for 5-6 years) so I may have some insight here.

Can you please show me where and what to edit so I can input my version of Whipers wording here.

Thank you for your help. I'll check the site when I get home, I cant view my site my work blocks it cuase it is a gaming site. But I did see it this morning at home seems your edit's are working outside of the forums. BTW did you know that this sites forums was down for hours as you all sleept? and the whole site was down also? These types of issues I am having too, your welcome to look around and see what I am talking about, try the comcode help link for starters. Why would it "crash" becuase of uppercase or lowercase wording? Thanks

It's not a crash per se, just an error. As for the help pages: they are hosted here at OCP so if there is an issue with the server here, it will manifest itself at your end, however, there is no connection to the operation of your site and the happenins' here at OCP HQ. Where is the PM link question: bottom right under the heading "Contact".

1. You can edit the text descriptions for each of the boxes in attachment-1 in ocf.ini.

2. You can change the button to whatever you like, because it is a graphic image. Find the image  themes/default/images/EN/pageitem/whisper.png, recreate the image and save it with the same name in your own theme's images_custom folder. Now, either change the image using the built-in tool in ocPortal or upload it via FTP.

Good luck.
