I am using Vbulletin not to happy but it's been bought and why let it go to no use when it's so expensive. The question I have using this 3rd party forum the Contact Us form no longer works is this as per design ?

Also how do I add/remove links to the bottom I would like to change the feedback as that doesn't work also i would like it to forward to the forums contacting page. If this is listed some where sorry but I haven't found it reading the tutorials.

The contact us as far as i know creates a post on the forum so should work. You have have to set up a forum for it, a staff forum would be good. I could be wrong on this though but as far as I know the contact us should work no matter which forum you are using, well has to be one of the ones that works with ocportal.

On the links at the bottom you can add to that via editing the bottom template.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

On the links at the bottom you can add to that via editing the bottom template.

v.small correction here - since v4 it's actually in the footer template (we merged bottom into footer).

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Contact us

Hello,

Can you please give me the name of the forum which is used by the contact us block? I have fixed the feedback by adding in a Website comments forum, and also the comments by adding a Website comment topics, If I could find out what forum name the contact us uses I will be al set.

I have tried
Staff, Contact us, contact us, no form shows just the normal text.

RE:

OcPortal + Vbulletin

If you have vbulletin and want to get it to work flawlessly with ocportal do the following.

Add the following forums
Website "Contact Us" message
Website support tickets
Website comments
Website comment topis
Staff
Staff chat

When you add these forums add them a disabled so they don't show as Ocportal will access them on the site, and this iwll just clutter vbulletin.

This is how I fixed the comments systems, contact us, feedback. I hope this helps someone

Glad you found it I was sleeping or getting ready for work when you posted your replies.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

RE:

I liked the OCF forum, but since I already had vbulletin I reinstalled and choose vbulletin, the only downide to that is it uses vbulletins register process. But so fare after the reinstall and using ocportals nifty way of it uploading directly to my servers ftp account seemed to have fixed all issues I had with permissions. The site is working as expected and without issue. Just wish they would document this some where, or have ocportal give errors as to why things dont show. But if any of the developers are reading these posts keep up the good work.

RE:

I have tried so many portals it's not funny:
Joomla, Tikiwiki, Jaws, ModX, bitweaver, Memht, and they all had basic functions. Most needed to manually modify code to add in mods, no easy way to install like in Joomla. Adding custom code was a pain as some if not all decided to block javascript instead of finding way around issues. so adding simple site seals from godaddy or simple live chat scripts would render about 30 mins of trial and error before giving up and going to another portal. I am only a systems administrator with little PHP,HTML,CSS etc.. I Code in C,C++,Python so I can't really offer much :( would be nice to learn but I don't have time atm.

I'm not much of a theme, modifications or addon kind of person I will do the simple mods like removing the logo from my billing app and also my forums, modifying the vbulletin to use the secure login instead of the non secure login. The only theme I modified was one for vbuletin as I find the default very plain and ugly so I changed it to a free white/black with the top logo removed and little mods here and there other than that I don't bother with eye candy. Not even my personal workstations at hom have much eyecandy most are just plain black backgrounds :)

I have also tried many scripts.
I have tried bitweaver, joomla, mamba, mkportal, tikiwiki, jaws, modx, phpx, ezportal(not actually easy), subdreamer, dcp portal, and many more. None are able to do every thing I need, either that or have lots of issues, like mkportal which has browser compatibility issues, that and cpu issues.

OCportal just works and has a great support team so I made a site to give back to such a great system. I made my theme site, still getting it off the ground but hopefully I can get a few themes on it before February.
