Can the invisible man be admitted to the website?

Is there a Cloaking device for ADMIN to visit the website while being invisible and still retaining all their ADMIN powers?

I am aware of the SU feature where you can pose as another member and in this you are granted the permissions of the member you pose as.

Also I have seen in Admin Zone > Setup > Configuration > Member and forum options >Enable logging-in as invisible where, if checked, any member can choose to be invisible.

Is there a way to do this but limit it to ADMIN or at lease a particular USERGROUP?

Good question. Was going to ask this myself.

Used it all the time in the version 3.x.x series, mainly to be able to be logged in on the site to do 'maintenance' tasks without being 'harrased' by logged-in members.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

I am in the same situation and I have site work and do but I don't want to appear rude to members.

I just went into configure and allowed to log in as invisible, saved it - logged out and logged in and it wasn't long before someone said high to me in the chat room???

Don't think you can hide in a chatroom even if logged in as invis.

If you stay out of the chat room will you be invisible?

You are on one of the sites I themed. I tested it out. Am invis and went into the chatroom and said that I entered… lol. Logged out and back in again, still invis. Didn't go in the chatroom, but it's not showing me in the online list.

I tried the same kind of experiment but used my sidekick test to check it out. Had the same results. OK as long as I don't go into the room.

I see the 'mechanics' of it, but I can't help feeling that it is counterproductive to activate a global setting to allow ANY member to login as invisible.

I have enough trouble keeping tabs on them when I can see 'em!

Yes, it is a permission that I don't want't to be memberwide - that does sound "counterproductive" as you say!

I am wondering if it can be confined to a special usergroup alone?

There's a forum option to turn invisibility on/off, that's the extent of the control.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
