How do you actually delete the IM messages?!

I am a little confused. The IM can be very useful but I am baffled when it comes to deleting the IM messages. Anyone knows how?

I think what you're actually wanting to do is to end a conversation(s) - you should see a button to do that near the IM window :).

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Hi Chris,

Sorry. my bad… I meant the shoutbox. I thought they were the same thing. How do I clear the shout box?

The shoutbox is tied into a chat room, the General Chat room by default. There's an icon for the Chat Rooms in the admin zone that includes options to delete all messages from rooms.

Hi Chris,

I no longer have the general chat room. Deleted it. Is there any way for me to delete the shoutbox contents?

As far as i know your messages should be deleted also, have you refreshed your caches?

Because by default the general chat room also stores the shoutbox content.

:D  Dont shoot the messenger!!  :D

Leon's answer assumes that the 'General Chat' room was deleted after the messages were posted.
However, if it was deleted before, then a different room would be storing the messages - the shoutbox block will default to getting messages from the oldest room there is.

So learning from this, if the room that stores the messages, is deleted, it will find another room to work with. Dang, this is awesome system.. You'll never be able to shut it up unless you delete all rooms. ( just learned that from the ini files)

Or you could just remove the shoutbox block from the Comcode. :P

There does seem to be a problem here, and I'm currently investigating.

Confirmed and fixed:
ocPortal - Entry: Shoutbox taking over an instant-messaging conversation

Thankyou gerryygan for the access that allowed me to track this down.

Hi Chris,

You are welcomed. One small question regarding the shoutbox. How do I define a chatroom for it? I want to create a new chatroom and link the shoutbox to it.

That's very much a technical support question so I we can't personally answer it without a registration - however the shoutbox is a block and all the block parameters are documented in our tutorials :).
