I know my friends would love to be able to make their own public chat. There is already the option to make a private chat room but to have a public one that is made in the same way would be nice as well.
Just wondering if it is possible to do?

OH By the way I just today figured out how to make a new public chat via the admin zone.
Its not under the chatrooms in content its under set up. I was thinking it would be in the content and under where it has the current chat room it would have add, edit and delete.

Found it while playing with the chat room and clicking on edit a chat entry and getting to the page where you could add a new chat room. Then after I found you could do it I went looking under all tabs and found it.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

The docs (will) cover this. A private chat room without any provision on who may enter it is essentially the same as a public chat room.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

You should have asked 'Fletch' about this.

Its been a couple of years since I seemed to have MAJOR problems with chat, but I've not had reason to complain since then (sorry, can't remember when it was 'sorted').

I would have made the point that Chris made; that a 'Private' chat room is 'Public' unless the person that builds the room chooses to restrict access.

The other feature to remember is that the 'Public' chat room (if it is the first one built) will always show up in the Shoutbox. The other chat rooms will not.

Can't think of anything else significant at the moment, but I think 4 has 'streamlined' certain elements and I can't comment until I give it try.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Oh well this is the first time I have really used the shoutbox my self. Just my friends where trying to use it and wanted these features so thats actually when I started playing with it for this latest beta.

I did not mean to complain though I am just expressing my experience to hopefully improve others experiences.

I know I have complained about how hard the admin zone is to navigate and not just for me but for others as well.
I am sure chris is aware of it though and is trying to make things better, he did even open up a thread about ways to improve the docs which I am working my best to find things that would be good to add.
