Ok so the chat system (which is quite cool) I find drives me nuts cause I am the type of person to have multiple tabs open and or move around my site alot and when someone Chats me every page I visit (even with the chat already open and going on) I get popups and reminders of invitation to chat. Am I missing a setting or something to prevent this or is it normal behaviour?

Do you mean when someone starts an IM with you, it offers to open up that from each tab?

That would be normal, but you can turn site-wide IM back off (it's not on by default).

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Well yes it makes an offer from each tab that is already open but if you open a popup and start a chat then navigate anywhere it closes it and makes another offer of chat. I just checked and even if its a new tab after the one you opened the popup from it sends another notification to chat.  If I turn off site wide notification then would only certain pages  offer the chat then?

v10 will have significant changes to the IM functionality, it is a lot smarter.

If you turn off site-wide IM, you have to be in the chat lobby. ocPortal will send a normal invitation (not an on-site one) to invite you there if you're not already there.
