I'm guilty of not trying to make a catalogue yet and yet I'm asking how to go about it.

I just wondered if it is possible for me to customize my own advanced search options in ocp4? The database will be empty (potential visitors can put themselves on it). I just want a set of criteria for visitors to set for themselves (putting themselves in the database) and a set of criteria for other visitors to look them up.

Is this possible?

Also, is it possible for the other visitors to email the people in the database anonymously? (this isn't a dating site by the way). I don't won't any contact details showing in the database. The visitors will have to contact the database people through my site.

Is this possible?

Just a quick general answer will do. I'm just seeing how flexible ocportal4 is.

It sounds like you really need a custom module written, as there are some unusual use-cases there.

Nah,

Chris, I've just had a good try at the catalogue and it suits my needs perfectly stright out the box, at least I think it does. What I am doing is akin to classifieds (but isn't). As long as members can email each other then that is fine by me.

This code you put on your tutorial page is perfect for me.

div class="wide_table_wrap"><table summary="{!MAP_TABLE}" class="wide_table solidborder spaced_table">
<colgroup>
<col width="150" />
</colgroup>

{FIELDS}
</table></div>

{+START,IF,{$EQ,{CATALOGUE},classifieds}}
<p>

AME*,{SUBMITTER}}</a>.<br />
You might want to
<a href="{$PAGE_LINK,_SEARCH:contactmember:misc:{SUBMITTER}}">e
mail {$USERNAME*,{SUBMITTER}}</a>
to query more about {FIELD_0*}.
</p>
{+END}

:lol:

I have but one newbie idiot question::$

I've filled in the fields in the catalogue I have added. I just wondered how I can fill in the data part of those fields. Do I do this with catagories? I've had a go at adding catagories but I am a bit stuck. (How do I create subcatagories?)

What I mean is, if I wanted people to choose between
1. brown or blue eyes
2. blond, red, brown hair
3. short or long hair.

How do I put this data into the fields itself? The field are blank at the moment (but the questions are there).
Also, the auto fill tree is limited to a fairly small number of catagories. :(

I just built a forum by the way and it was smooth, easy, loads of great features and looked great. Well done!

Hi,

How do I put this data into the fields itself? The field are blank at the moment (but the questions are there).

You need to add an 'entry'. Entries reside in the categories, but any category can have 0 or more entries.

Fixed in 4.1.8.

Thanks :).

Chris,

I added an entry but that was something different. That is for visitors to fill out when they are entering themselves in the database.

What i mean is, I have added a catalogue. I filled out the fields. I got to choose whether the input in the field was text based or numerals, or choice etc. I chose a title and description. My problem is not being able to fill in those inputs with choices.

Title: Hair colour.
Description: Choose what colour hair you have.
Input: choice.

Now where can I put in fair, dark and black, as choice for the visitors when they are adding an entry?

I looked at the tutorial screen shot and it looked like an old version. I saw an "answer" box below. I think this is what I am looking for.

Oh I see what you mean. You need a list field. Go and edit the catalogue, for the particular field (Hair colour) choose 'List' type. Then in the 'Default value' box put "Brown|Blond|Red|Ginger" (etc).

Chris. I've just found it. Thanks a lot.

I realized that I had to put one of those | in too just to see if it worked. It did.

I told you it was newbie question. Nothing too complicated with me I can tell you lol.
