Can't delete posts to shoutbox!

More weirdness. The shoutbox had 3 entries this morning with URL links that were just garbage AFAICS. I went to CONTENT MANAGEMENT/CHAT and deleted the 3 shoutbox posts. Then went to TOOLS and cleared the cache on Topics, Forums and Members (not sure if this part is necessary but I have done it before and had success).

Went back to the shoutbox and behold - The 3 entries remained unchanged by my effort. What's up? I know I have performed this procedure before and gotten rid of posts not wanted or duplicated.

I have not a clue what's happening but the 3 entries are now gone more than 1/2 a day later. What??

It must have been a "Slow Server Day" lol!

I was curious and tested this; the messages were deleted immediately. Furthermore, you can verify this by looking at your MySQL databases for _chat_messages. You can find the id of each message beforehand by looking on the taskbar while hovering on the message in the Chat system moderation page.
These records will be deleted as soon as you delete the messages.

Are you saying Islander-aua, you are deleting them directly from the MYSQL database instead of CONTENT MANAGEMENT/CHATROOMS?

NO, I'm just pointing to the database source as the ultimate reference confirming if a message was actually correctly deleted. ;)

OK got it. Thanks - If it occurs again I'm heading to the databases to take a peek!

Hi,

This was a problem specific to how we turned iframes off for your site, friendly. I've uploaded a fix for you as I still have the FTP access.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
