I have a user that registered with the name
Richard L 'Rip' Van Winkle.

I tried to add that name to a secondary group and got the following error:

An error has occurred

The member 'Richard L 'Rip' Van Winkle' does not exist.
I have asked him to request access to that group to see if it works going that way around. I will let you know the results. If all else fails I will ask him to change his name, I just thought that you should know to look into it.

Hi,

This worked when I tried it now. Did you copy and paste his username exactly when you added it?

Hey Chris,

Yes copy and pasted, don't know if you remember a question I asked elsewhere about moving a group of people in mass but that is what I am doing. So I opened one page with the member list and a second tab with the usergroup that I want to add them to as a secondary then going back and forth and I have pasted them all in except the on in question.

By the way I just got an email back from the person.. He tried to apply to join the usergroup as I asked him and got an error. He did not specify the error though. I think what I will do with him for now is to change his name to something else, then change his membership, then change his name back. Will let you know how that goes.

Oh I just went back and tried again and this time I notice there was a stack trace. Doesn't look like much info but here it is just in case it helps.

An error has occurred

The member 'Richard L 'Rip' Van Winkle' does not exist. (version: 4.3.2, PHP version: 5.2.12, URL: /site/index.php?page=groups&keep_fatalistic=1&type=add_to&id=4)

Here is the stack trace:

Below is a stack trace revealing the state the software was in when the error occurred. If this represents a bug in the unmodified software, you may want to check ocPortal website for a fix, and if there isn't one, report this as a bug. Please note that merely posting a stack trace is not sufficient for us to solve your problem; the stack trace is just an aid that presents us with additional information. We still need to know the error message, what you tried to do, how you tried to do it, version numbers, and any other appropriate information.
We apologise for this problem and if it's a bug we hope you will work with us so that we can fix it for you promptly.

OK I just went into his profile, changed his name to Richard L Van Winkle then added him to the secondary group then changed his name back to Richard L 'Rip' Van Winkle and it all worked. So for some reason it did not like the 'Rip' part of the name. My is the ' is causing a problem. Any way all is well for now. I will just have to keep changing his name every time I need to do anything to his group membership.

I had tested with the same username. I wonder if he had a space in it before somehow, and that didn't copy&paste over.

Chris,

That would make sense if it was strictly a copy and paste issue but as I said he tried to apply to join that group and still got an error. The only other thing that I can think of is that you have sent me 2 or 3 fixes for other issues and maybe one of those is causing a problem. As I said though it is on the one person and I have a work around so it is not a big issue. I only posted so that you would be aware, if no one else is having a problem it must just be a problem with my site. Thanks for looking into it.
