cannot connect to the FTP server

I am trying to deploy ocportal on a pc with linux and xampp. I have put the two files with FTP in the htdocs dir and started the install.php in the webbrowser. But after completing the form of step 4 i get an error message "cannot connect to the FTP server" and the install stops. I have checked hte FTP hostname (localhost), username and password and directory and they are all correct. With the same data i can manually connect to the FTP server (PROFTP) and read, write, etc.
I checked phpinfo to see if FTP is enabled, and it is. What can be wrong?

Non-joined user

I want to explore the possibilities of ocportal a bit more, before putting it on a hosted environment. So i put it on a local host (PC) first. That way i can test offline.

Bummer, i did the automatic install and the manual - logging into my FTP with no problem and i still cant get it to install (Cannot connect to FTP server) i have no idea why. I even added another user FTP to the account and that didnt work either. Is there something wrong with godaddy hosting to complete this?

Hi,

This sounds like it could be some kind of Firewall problem blocking certain access paths, or perhaps the FTP server is not configured to listen on the localhost networking interface.
In the code the only way for ocPortal to return this error is if it fails to connect via the PHP ftp_connect function.
The only other possibility I can think of is if FTP was not on port 21 but I think you'd know this if it were the case.

Regardless if you are installing on a computer you control there's no need to use the quick installer. You can just unzip the manual package direct on the server and run the fixperms.sh script (unless it's a suid server in which case you would not need to even do this).

Karm4– your post implies that using the manual installer you still got an FTP error. This should not be the case, unless you did not overwrite install.php with the install.php from the manual package (i.e. you left the quick installer there).
