I am thinking about another project using ocPortal. It will be a simple website utilizing the galleries and a few other things native to ocPortal but I have a couple of questions:
  1. Can ocPortal be installed without a member system?
  2. Can ocPortal be installed without the Forum?

What a good question!

Although I'm not too sure of the value of this approach. Wouldn't a static XHTML website be better suited?

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

I guess you can accomplish that by opening your site to "Guest", remove the "login block", limit access to "Personal zone" and "Forum zone", and remove the Forum zone from all menus.

"ocf_forum is an addon" which can be uninstalled if you really want to remove it.

Choose "no forums or members" during installation, and your wish shall be granted.
