Hello,

I created a couple of events in the last week and I wanted a event reminder email to go to all my site's usergroups. Just going by the wording of options in the Reminders interface, I thought I could cause everyone to receive the reminder whether they have individually ticked the event type interest boxes (in site calendar screen) or not. But now I'm finding that the reminder email didn't go out. Am I not able to cause everyone to receive the reminder unless they tick the interest boxes for event types?

I read something about usergroups at the bottom of the tutorial below which may give a hint about this area, but it was too complex for me to grasp.

Hi,

This should work quite simply, so you might have found a bug there (I'll take a look for you – just let me know which event it was).

But checking the code I can see event reminders wouldn't be saved if the event didn't have "is public" checked, so maybe that is it. Looking at that now, I see it is a bit confusing – a public event is needed basically for members to see it, a non-public event usually (depending on permissions) can only be seen by the user who added it.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

For the record, I've just decided to rename 'Public events' to 'Shared events' for the next version.

Hello,

I set up three events to all have reminders sent. They were all checked as Public. Everyone has Permissions set to view public events.

http://www.saivasiddhanta.org/site/index.php?page=calendar&type=view&id=happy-pancha-ganapati&day=2011-12-22&date=2011-12&back=month

http://www.saivasiddhanta.org/site/index.php?page=calendar&type=view&id=moksha-ritau&day=2011-12-15&date=2011-12&back=month

http://www.saivasiddhanta.org/site/index.php?page=calendar&type=view&id=annual-6-parts-vasana&day=2011-12-20&date=2011-12&back=month

When I was trying to figure out the problem I also set up dummy events with reminders, setting the Reminders interface in different ways, and still they would only list my name as subscribed for reminders.

Ah, I have now had time to run tests and this just wasn't working. I have uploaded a fix for you, sorry for the inconvenience. I think we must have accidentally broken in it back in v6.

Thanks, Chris. I added a new event and the reminder will go out in a few days, and we'll see how it goes. As far as I can tell from masquerading as other users and looking at the event's page, the usergroup Reminder option 'Select all those chosen below' is working right, but the option 'Select all except those chosen below' didn't work (i tried that one first because it's quicker).
