On my forum, I've discovered, as either a normal user or as an admin, I can give multiple thumbs up/down to the same post.

As admin I clicked the thumbs up 11 times, then logged in as a normal user clicked it an additional 10 times. Somewhere at around 15 clicks, the member thumbnails disappeared. Points were awarded for all clicks.

From the looks of it I could possibly keep adding clicks until my finger got tired or I got bored.   O_o

Strangely enough, I received multiple emails from  the ocPortal forum about one post being liked several times even though the post itself showed only one person had actually liked it.

Peculiar.

That was probably from me. I tested it out just before I started this thread to see if I got the same results. I just gave you 9 more emails.

I also think I've figured out a way to "mail bomb" you. I can click as many times as I can, then click another link, then hit the browser's back button to come back to this page and start the cycle all over again. But just remember, you will get the points though for the hassle of receiving all those emails.

Yep, I got another 9 emails and the points. It's almost like having a not-so-secret admirer…….or stalker.

LOL! How many likes would it take to fill your inbox?  O_o

I hope this is something Chris would be able to eventually fix (and I'm sure he will). It's a very low priority bug and not a show stopper, but it could be used to really annoy someone or even used to wrongly pad someone's points.

My members know about this glitch and if they start abusing it, I'll disable their thumbs.  :ninja2:  :P

That was worth a few extra thumbs. Nine to be exact.

It appears, on this forum anyway, 9 is the cutoff.

Well, Chris could not choose a better guinea pig. I wish we had nine or ten more like you here in these forums. fortunately, we are seeing a few more people get involved with the code.

So did Chris. While you may have paid more (9x5 points), Chris wasn't far behind (8x5) and had more variety (3x5 + 3x5 + 2x5), and they are just the obvious ones.

Okay, we have a serious problem, the walls of reality are breaking down. Different universes are converging, which is why different you's from different universes now are rating together.

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

It is a bug fix, but I think it would only be required if some custom coding had been done to implement multiple rating types per content type.

The underlying framework does intentionally allow re-rating now (so a themer could theme a re-rate feature in), but the bug here is multiple ratings. i.e. re-rate should change rating, not give multiple ratings.

Also points should not have been sent more than once, I'll fix that too. Not a huge problem, but probably not a good idea to allow members to perform 'quantitative easing'.

On my forum…
Partly fixed.

I can still get 2 clicks before the thumbs disappear. Thumbnails are correctly displayed now. And, of course points are still given for each click, but as you said you will correct that.

On your forum…
Obviously you changed something on ocP because before when I tested I was able to get multiple clicks but only one thumbnail would appear. Now I can also get multiple thumbnails.

Somewhere from a sci-fi show or movie is a quote just begging to be said here, but since I'm exhausted and partly brain-dead, I'll let someone else have that pleasure.

The correct response for that situation is this.

I'll let someone else have that pleasure.
The closest one I can think of regarding parallel universes merging is Fringe, but that is only two universes merging into a new 3rd universe.

You also have The One where there are 125 universes, but they weren't collapsing.

Not collapsing yet! It's the domino effect I'm worried about. :o  The great ocProphet Chris has spoken so it must be true.  :)
