Yes, another user reported this just the other day, it's fixed in 7.0.1.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I wasn't sure if this was related to the keyword auto-generation. Guess I need to do the update to 7.0.1.

One question, will the fix populate the keywords and blog summary each time a save is done if the fields are empty?

Thanks for your help.

This is still not fixed in 7.1

In both add and edit modes, the 'News Summary' field is left blank even though the field states:
The summary. If you'd like this intelligently auto-generated from a portion of the full article, leave it blank.

In edit mode, none of the fields (summary, keywords and concise description) are populated even if all are blanked out prior to save.

Could you please also verify where the news/blog summary is used and how it is different to 'Concise description' (which I guess is only used by the search engines).

Don't think there is a bug here. The blanking out to regenerate thing is for Comcode Pages only, because they have no add/edit distinction. For other content types, generation is only done on 'add'.

The news summary is shown when browsing news categories, or in the main_news block. It isn't auto-generated and saved like the SEO fields are, it is done on-the-fly.

It would be nice if all metadata was treated consistently though ocPortal.

That said, the Comcode pages are probably the most important for this feature to work.

Comcode pages are generally an exception because they are stored on disk, and can be created out of the context of ocPortal.
