Any more documentation on this, I am leaving my host and I like to collocate a windows 2008 box with OCP & some Steam games, around the first weeks of next year. I like to know a little more of my options.

Thanks

You're best off just doing a normal install.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Yes, I tried to install it , it all went smooth until I tried to updated OCP4 database to OCP5, I had to input the url in the OCP updater everything extracted well and was going good until the last install page having me go though the final sets of the install of the update, the database is were it all went wrong, it was giving data base ocp4 errors, I tried to install 2 more times and they all ended with the same database errors. But wow man that's the stuff right there! its like click, click, next, next and OCP installed and ready to use, but with an old version. No biggie I just wanted to try it.

On a happier note I have OCP installed on my win2008 server  ;)

Yeah that's actually been on my to-do list for about 2 years. I had a developer write an app for it, but the Windows stuff gave him loads of errors just trying to get the platform dependences installed. It was early days back then, and we send a load of feedback back to a contact we made at Microsoft. I keep meaning to go through and polish it off myself, but it's hard to find the time.

I can just imagine your lack of free time for any other projects. I can see you had your hands full lately.

I have been busy with windows server 2008 and IIS7 some MS features from the link above is very good. I have got

php-5.3.3-nts-Win32-VC9-x86,
msimysql-essential-5.1.51-win32.msi,
phpMyAdmin-3.3.8 & wincache

working with IIS7 and let me tell you it is super fast. The only thing killing me is those damn IIS7 permissions, one just can't make a folder or file and easy change the permissions, this one thing only has taken up 95% percent of my time and I still don't understand how permissions are handled by windows and ISS7.

But when an app is available from the above MS link all those permissions are handled making the install super easy.

I think you see how OCP can benefit by having a Microsoft Web Platform Installer app for OCP.

I am 100% possessively certain that a lot more people will take notice of OCP with such an app.

Something to keep in mind.

Only less than 53% of web servers on line now use Apache or a nix machine, the number is even getting smaller year after year.

Some food for thought links

Apache vs. IIS | DeveloperSide.NET Blog
My Take: IIS vs. Apache : BillS IIS Blog : The Official Microsoft IIS Site.

Them links seem biased to me, but Microsoft Web Platform Installer app for OCP is another option to get the word out to potentiality lots of people.
