Features and upgradeability

Hi there,

I would like to say I am very excited about this product. I stumbled upon it by accident and it provides us with some good addons. We do heavily use forums, wordpress etc on some of our sites and we wanted something different , and this is a good choice. It is nice to see people being helpful and even the development team is very nice and it is something you miss this days.

Anyway what i would like to ask is this. After reading all the improvements in the new version I opted to install the beta version that is available here to get a head start. We have spent 2 days customizing it and it looks good at this point.

Now I have read on a earlier post today that some of the features that were listed are not in the beta2. It does seem to work very good as a Beta product and I feel that we will stay with it as it is…. And wait for the next release (RC1) and install it over the top. I am hoping that there will be a path of upgrading from Beta2 to the RC1 and that we can continue streamlining the site with the future updates, rather going back to 4.1 and then upgrading …. ???

Thanks for a interesting and useful product that does not cost :)

FYI: I don't recommend using a "beta" version for a live site, if that is what you're doing.

I do understand where you are coming from on this issue.
The thing is we have tested it before deploying it. So far it is working well so I am not to worried and it is for a pet site we are playing around with.

Golab,

What kind of pet site are you working on. The reason I ask is that I am in the process of working on a site for a Cat Sanctuary that uses the Catalog system that was heavily modified by the programmers. If you would like to see it you can go to it directly from my servers IP since it is not live on a domain yet Please help our defenseless friends - Sundance Ranch Feline Sanctuary Once there go to the Adoption link then one of the Categories at the bottom of the page to see what was done.

As to the Beta's I agree with you that ocPortals beta's are some of the best and most stable. The problem is that since the beta's are not officially supported there may be issues/problems upgrading to an officially supported release.

Eric,

I have been to your site and I love the way the site has the shadow to it around the main section.. Just like OCPortal does.

Is this easy to do? do you know of any links to info on how to get this look as I can not find any..

Thanks in advance

Hi Eric,

The site is all ready, Welcome! - Home Education Tasmania but I liked the look of the shadowing and thought I would ask you how it was achieved… as I love the effect it gives this site and yours!

put this right after the <body> tag in global template

<div id="outer_body_shadow_overlay">

and this right before the </body> tag in global template

</div>

Then add this to global.css

#outer_body_shadow_overlay {background:transparent url('{$IMG,shadow}') repeat-y scroll center top;

and add the attached shadow file to your theme folder in the images_custom folder.

That should do it. :thumbs:

This is what it looks like with the shadow

Okay I can find the global.css in here /public_html/themes/Home_Education_Tasmania/css_custom/
Which is okay I can modify that, I have uploaded the image also to the custom images folder.

Now the top part regarding the global template…. If I look at the global template ther eis no <body>.. tags I can see, is there a specific goball template I need ot be looking at ?

Right, my mistake.

Add it to the header.tpl right after the <body class="re_body" onload="scriptLoadStuff()" id="main_website"> tag

and in the footer.tpl add </div> right before the </body> tag.

that will take care of it.

I didn't mess with the footer on mine… I'll have to go back and check, but I think it was just one file.

Again, I'll help you in private if you need it, just ask!  ;)
