Hi I wanted to know if there is a way to ban sign ups either by Domain names or banning specific email addresses.Or whole email address eg yahoo.com or something like that … I could only find banning by IP addresses. Thanks Slav

I have not seen the ability to do that.  Only the IP thing, and I think you can 'restrict' certain usernames too so people can not use them.

Ip idea is good , but I would love to be able to ban specific email addresses from being allowed to sign up to eliminate more spammers etc.

You probably can, if you can work out how fields.xml works. You can set regular expressions and so on to validate against what is put into fields. But it's not so simple.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Ah okay, was hoping that it was something simpler then that. I am sure I have seen it somewhere being used not sure if it was on wordpress that my wife has or somewhere else. I have found that having a lot of people signing up from Russia etc etc, that we would just like to stop then even from using specific email account. Even like hotmail accounts to be canned etc.

Golab-

I think that this could probably be built into this feature request: 0000290: Spammer database - ocPortal feature tracker

Be sure to add any specific needs to the feature request in the tracker while there. You will need to sign in with your ocPortal forum credentials.

You might want to vote for this in the Tracker (Feature development tracker - ocPortal). It is titled "core: Spammer database". It is important for the developers to know which items are the most important to us users.
