Silly.... or not?!

Okay, so this may be a silly question and situation…

I am testing OCP 4 RC3 with the default theme for fun…

I have the site set to closed so I can play around with it and no one else can register and play with me. When not logged in as admin, I see the banner ad defaults (donate and advertise here). When I log in as admin, the banner ads are no longer available. Permissions seem to be fine… I think. I don't know what to do?! I'd like to use those two ads when I decide to use the final version.

Hi,

I can understand the confusion as we've forgotten to document this.

Here's what I'm adding to the banners tutorial…

Any usergroup with the "Avoid banners" permission will not see banners. Super administrators will have this permission (as they always have all permissions), and hence super administrators will never see banners. To test banners from a super administrator account (such as the default 'admin' account), use the 'SU' feature to switch to the test account: add &keep_su=test onto the end of a URL.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
