Ok, I'm a little confused with the whole default banner system and I am trying to struggle my way through to understand it.
Besides the default banner system …..what is the best way to simply add a banner to a side block?

I'm interested in knowing this also. I would like to place a banner along the side instead of taking up real estate at the top.

I have used banners a lot on my website. I think I have about 132 of them by now. I use then to fill content highlighting and promotion. I have not used them in the side panel (yet) but I don't see why they wouldn't work there also as long as you create or get a banner that will fit your side panel width and put the BANNER BLOCK in the side panel you want it to display in.

I'm sure you have already explored Manage Banners in Content Management, that is where you set up the other part of the magic.

I usually create a banner type specifying the info asked for there; codename, width, height, file size. then go to Add Banner and fill in the info there being sure to specify the Banner Type you already created. Check your permissions so that you are able to view Banners as I believe your admin status lets you bypass the viewing of banners otherwise.

Like I said, I have never done this on the side but know it works in the main content areas just fine.

Thanx for that friendly,

I have been trying to use the Manage Banners but this is where I'm getting confused. I'm guessing that the banner system can only be used internally?

I want to use html code generated from an advertiser and hence the confusion when trying to add a new banner and not really knowing how to add said generated code within the settings.
Does that make any sense?

I use an amazon generated code for one of my banner displays which by passes the banner system altogether ~ this is the code I have been using for it although it is specific to my amazon account:

Code

<iframe border="0" frameborder="0" height="248" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=mynameandnumberhere&amp;o=1&amp;p=12&amp;l=st1&amp;a%20mp;mode=books&amp;search=dinosaurs%20paleontology%20prehistoric%20&amp;fc1=0%2000000&amp;lt1=_blank&amp;lc1=00FFFF&amp;bg1=007EA2&amp;f=ifr" style="border: medium none" width="298"></iframe>
Don't know if that helps you or not but as I said in this case it doesn't use the ocPortal banner system.

Ok, This is what I did this and seams to look not bad!

I just used the comcode tag and put the my html code in change the width: accordingly and voila!

Code

[semihtml]<div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 160px;">"MY HTML HERE"
</div>[/semihtml]

This is the result:

I also tried it with a box around it but I don't think it looked as good but I guess that depends on preference.
