I remember some mention that some items will generate an automatic redirect from the old to the new URL but I can't seem to find the information now. I'm hoping this applies to category changes in the catalog.

I need to change the category for some of my images. After making the change in the catalog, will I need to create a 301 redirect in the .htaccess or am I right in remembering that ocPortal tracks these automatically?

Thanks for any help.

Well, now that I've posted the question, I think that I've found the post I was remembering:
View topic: SEO urls - ocPortal

If I am reading this correctly, changing the category for an entry will indeed create a redirect for any incoming links.

Thanks for verifying this, Chris. This is another really nice nice feature which I am sure is often overlooked.

Just wanting to make sure before I make this change. Does this work also if I move a whole category under a new parent or do I need to create my new category structure and move the individual entries?

Thanks for any help.

The URL monikers (the human readable URLs) are stored in a table against IDs. If you do something that prompts a new moniker to be generated, the old one is not deleted, it is set as 'deprecated'. Meaning lookups continue to work.

I think I know the answer to this but I want to check before I make any changes. My "client" has decided that several of the paintings are mis-named. If I rename the painting (title) in the catalog, will a redirect be automatically generated or do I need to do this in .htaccess?

Thanks for any help.

It's fine to and should redirect, but if you're very concerned just note down the old URL and check. I'd be very surprised if it doesn't work though.

Of course, it works - this is ocPortal.  :)

As ocNoob said above, "This is just ninja!"

Do posts moved from one forum to another also get automatic redirects?

Thanks for any help.

That's funny and I got it without looking.

I suspected they would but I am just afraid to screw anything up since i am running behind schedule.

Thanks, as always, Chris.
