Hi,
For consistancy of keeping things together I created a sub-galleries for my audio demos. I have the configuration set for allowing audio files in place of video, and made sure mp3 was in the list of allowed file types. So I uploaded a MP3 file, after supplying all the info, description etc and used an animated gif for a thumbnail. The upload was successful, but the issue that I'm having is on the gallery page, there's just a thumbnail, no description or filename. Also, once I click on the thumbnail nothing happens.  It goes to the display page, but does not play the mp3 file.  Am I missing something here?

Hi,

Accessibility problems…

For visual users, there was a Javascript tooltip over the thumbnail. But as we did this to look nice, it wasn't done as a normal accessible tooltip. I have added the 'video' title in as the normal alt text for the thumbnail.

Playback wasn't automatic. ocPortal is using jwplayer on your site, and perhaps the UI to this doesn't handle accessibility well. I have gone and put on autoplay, via overriding the GALLERY_VIDEO_FLV.tpl and GALLERY_VIDEO_GENERAL.tpl templates. GALLERY_VIDEO_FLV.tpl is the one used, and is named for legacy reasons (because we used to play mp3 files via the old jwplayer which primarily was designed for FLV files). We'll be completely restructuring these templates in v10.

Notes to other users for completeness…

I have also made the flow-mode consistent, as that was displaying the description rather than the title.

I have made it so that even if 'Javascript overlays' is on, the prettier tooltips leave the accessible tooltips behind as alt text, where possible.

Thank you Chris. I had been using a separate page for all my demos apart from my pics, but thought it would look more professional to have pics, audio and video displayed all in a common gallery. I didn't even think to change the accessibility options to see if it fixed the issue.

I don't think anything would have solved the issue, except me fixing it. The fancy tooltips were on mouse events, so it would have been hard to trigger them with a screenreader.

I just checked it out and that's super. I do have one more question.  I do see the title of the demo as the link. Did this do away with the graphic ? Or will sighted folks still see it, and if so will they see the title?

Sighted folks should observe no change. The thumbnail is as before, except the alt-text is added to it. I guess the screen reader doesn't both telling you it's an image anymore.

That's correct, which is fine.  I went back and reread your first post, and see the comment that sighted users would see a tooltip overlay, which is where I assume they'll see the title.
