Honoured member

Hi Chris,

We are having some major login problems. Hoping you can resolve quickly. I can't login, and neither can other members. Not sure what the issue is but wanted to make you aware.

There have been little to  no members on the site since we went live tonight.

If you can please connect with Francois in the morning to address would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

- R

Hi,

Hi did mention something last night, but I thought it might have been to do with the admin username. I'm currently taking a look, seeing what I need to do to get my SMF test user to log in. I wonder if there is a version difference in how passwords are checked that the importer was not aware of.

Hi,

So actually I've been unable to find a problem so far :(.

I did some serious analysis of the SMF authentication code to find any issue, I tested logging in myself, I tested a new password full of strange characters that I thought could trip it up, but I couldn't get a problem.

I also noticed how an old user, 'lm77' has posted.

I also note how even if SMF had older password storage schemes (e.g. from older SMF versions, or past software), it upgrades them to the new SMF standard each time you login. So there shouldn't be very old password schemes to deal with either.

It should be possible for members to do a password reset in ocPortal.

However, I of course do not doubt if people say there are issues, there are issues. If someone can tell me a username and password combination that should work but does not, I will run more tests on that to try and spot the failure point. Maybe it is some specific character(s) in passwords that are not encoding the same. Obviously that involves trusting me with it until it is changed. So if someone wants me to do that, send something to chris@ocportal.com.

I can also grant individual IPs back into SMF, i.e. remove Francois's redirect for specific IPs. I have just done this with your IP address. So if you want to try out changing your password in SMF to something similar to one that does not work (e.g. with some numbers and letters changed but the same symbols), then telling me via e-mail what you changed it to and the username – I can then copy over the new SMF hashed password back to ocPortal and see if I can log in with what I was told, and if not, debug it. That way I don't need to know anyone's actual current password.
