I am using 4.2 to set up a site for my uncle.  He writes a weekly publication, which consist of three separate articles.  I've created the News Categories, and have started entering his older articles into the system. So far I've entered 30 of 322, and they all appear on the front page main-news block.  Is there a way I can forceably archive these articles? And secondly, is there a way I can limit the number of articles shown to 3 or 4 instead of all of them?

The issue here is the main_news block is date-based by default. IIRC the following parameters sort it:

Code

param="0" fallback_full="3" fallback_archive="1"

That example sets it to not show by day and instead show 3 summaries and 1 headline.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Gotcha thanks.  That does it perfectly.

Now is there a way to makethe news block show the last posted full story in a particular category. For example, he would like to have a page called Editorial, and pipe just the, full article and not the summary, from the last posted article in the Editorial News category.

I can't think of a way to do that without code changes.

Btw though, the archive link error you saw was a bug, this will be fixed in 4.2.1.

I didn't think there was either, but one never knows till the question is asked.  No biggie.  Thanks

Here is a suggestion, if you don't mind having another block on the Front Page. You can create a Forum Category called "Editorial" and use the main_forum_news Block; call it Editorial and refer to the last post on this forum. Every new editorial article will now appear on the front page.
