Started to look at how I can improve the performance of our site page loads - they are not bad but any speed increase is a good thing.

I installed APC and have the cache page up showing hits - there is one, that is APC itself.

I went into the OCP configuration and set "use_mem_cache" = 1.

The pages then loaded slower - on inspection the APC Info page is not showing any cache hits.

Is there something else that I need to set to get OCP to make use of APC ?

Complex stuff, I can't really answer without really spending some hours on a server going through it all carefully. Make sure the cache size is large enough in APC. Make sure the caching method in APC is compatible with the PHP method (e.g. I'm not sure if SHM would work with fast-cgi, but i've not looked closely at it). I think there's an option in APC that needs to be compiled in and enabled, to allow user memory rather than just opcode caching.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
