Does ocPortal have the capability for an affiliate program?

I downloaded and installed ocPortal a few days ago. The reviews and ratings that I read before trying indicated that it had affiliate program capability. I have gone through just about every page of the admin zone, looked throuigh the video titles, did a search of the site (including posts, news, etc.), looked through addons and looked through the FAQ and have not been able to find any indication of an affiliate module. Does ocPortal have the ability to do an affiliate program for promotion of the site? If so, where do I access the set up?

Thanks.

The Banner Ads is probably the closest thing.

Hi,

I think the only place we've filled this in is on the CMS-matrix site, with the functionality as 'limited'.

To be honest the support is very limited compared to full affiliate systems. There are free affiliate-esque features…

  1. Banner ad networks. You can set up banner networks where clicks-in are balanced to clicks-out. You can also track clicks indirectly if someone adds a banner that is disabled but shows your banner code.
  2. People who recommend the site can get points when people sign up from that recommendation.
  3. You can attach keep_* parameters of your choosing to your URLs, e.g. http://baseurl/?keep_ref=12345 and then use an external tool like Google Analytics to set up sales funnel monitors using it. ocPortal propagates any URL parameters starting 'keep_' so it is a useful tracking mechanism.

There's no big ocPortal system for signing up as an affiliate and then having ocPortal automatically handle payments to them. ocPortal's features here are just infrastructure ones.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks for the responses. I am disappointed that there is no affiliate module. I am glad that I discovered ocPortal after several years of exhaustive testing of CMS options. I have tried Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, DotNetNuke, and many others. (More than 15 total.) While each of them have their place and their strengths, none of them had the combination of features that I need.

I still have some testing to do but I think that, even without the affiliate module, I will likely end up using ocPortal.

I just did a little research into open source affiliate systems. I found one good-looking one that is still alive:
Affiliate Management Software :: eLitius Affiliate Management Software

I assume this could be used with ocPortal, probably it acts like a gateway so doesn't need special integration, but I'm guessing.
