I'm trying to setup ocPortal on a new Centos 6.2.  I go through the installation procedure, and it finishes, but when I try to go to the "Configure your website" step or even "Goto your website" step, it fails to load.  In the Apache error log I see:

Code

[Sun Jan 01 20:06:59 2012] [error] [client x.x.x.163] PHP Fatal error:  Allowed memory size of 1073741824 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 523800 bytes) in /var/www/html/oc/sources/database/xml.php on line 2022, referer:http://www.website.com/install.php?step=10

I've increased the PHP memory limit to 1024M, so memory shouldn't really be a problem.

CentOs 6.2, 64bit
Server version: Apache/2.2.15 (Unix)
PHP 5.3.3-3

Any idea?

It sounds like a bug in the XML database driver, but this at installation might have given a clue…

"Standalone XML/serialised files [experimental, for programmers]"

Along with this in the error database/xml.php.

;). Best keep away from that, it's definitely not for end users.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

When I choose a forum during the installation step, there's no other database option to choose from.  Does this mean I have to use a 3rd party forum software?

Ah, no, it means you have no database extensions set up in your server's php.ini. You need to enable the MySQL extension.

Duh, I feel stupid.  That's one of those things I completely missed.  Thanks for the help.  It's working now.

Join the club! It's happened to all of us at one time or another, to some degree or other!

I've been getting the 'ad' on the right popping up in my browser(s) recently, so I thought I'd adapt it …

… for ALL of us!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!
