Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS. ocPortal 9 is superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

#70072 (In Topic #14842)

Some disruptive changes, for the possible future ocPortal…

Facebook support – move it all out into non-bundled addon. Ensure addon is good.
Twitter support – move it all out into non-bundled addon. Ensure addon is good.
Workflows – move from non-bundled addon, in as standard ocPortal functionality.
CEDI – rename to 'Wiki+'.
Flagrant text – rename to 'Community messages'.
Staff addon – drop.
Tester addon – move to non-bundled addon.
devguide addon – drop.
main_recent_* and main_top_* blocks – drop (we have a unified main_multi_content block now, which is more powerful)
Backup addon – tell Setup Wizard to uninstall it by default (it can never be consistently good enough on all servers).

Things left unchanged…

Google maps – keep as non-bundled addon.  [we prefer not to tie into third-party external services by standard]
OpenID – keep as non-bundled addon.   [not widely adopted in the real world, hard to support officially]
Lightbox2 – keep as non-bundled addon.   [heavy weight of third party coding, easy to install if wanted]

Discuss :)

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about Composr whenever you see the opportunity or support me on Patreon.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying Composr on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

   to all.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

All the above sounds good to me. If it streamlines the base code, I'm all for it especially if the replaced included add-ons are as good or better then what is offered now.

I've not experimented with the main_multi_content block but it sounds like I better get up to speed with it.

Adding my supportive vote!

I have long used WIKI instead of CEDI on my site, cutting down the amount of explanation needed to get users to adopt this great feature of ocP.

Facebook support is crucial for community type sites. I've been looking forward to re-design my Facebook theme for a while now. A self-contained updated add-on package would be welcome.
