Ok, clearly I have a lot to learn, but I would have thought that removing an addon via the structure menu would be fairly straightforward, but I've got issues now.

I installed the "cool member directory" addon, however it turned out not to be the solution I had hoped for.  Thinking I could simply 'uninstall' the addon, I did so, and now my member directory is completely messed up and not very usable for administration or users.

Is there anyway to just put things back to the way they originally were?  Do I need to reinstall the Government theme?  Please offer any/all suggestions, this is quickly proving to be my least favourite part of the application

As always, thanks very much...

Mark

It might be being conservative if it doesn't know if an override file is yours or an addons, try seeing if there is a themes/default/templates_custom/OCF_MEMBER_DIRECTORY.tpl file to erase.

Hmm, actually I just looked at the code - it would not delete it if the file was shared by another addon. I'm not sure, maybe we had another addon you installed at some point that used the same file. Regardless, the file indicated is the one that handles the display of the addon.

It's there before the addon is removed, it's called:  OCF_MEMBER_DIRECTORY_SCREEN

No such file in the directory after the addon is removed, but the member list is completely wonky then and nothing even remotely close to what it was prior to the initial installation of the addon.

Attempt#2:

I re-installed the addon and then went into the themes/default/templates_custom directory and tried deleting the OCF_MEMBER_DIRECTORY_SCREEN.tpl file.  Interestingly, deleting that file with the addon installed made absolutely no difference in the appearance of the members list???  It still displays just an icon, their name and "give a gift" (I have no idea where that came from)?  What it doesn't display any longer is who is validated vs. who is not, which is critical for us.  See pic below:

Have you tried emptying the template cache?

Also check the template isn't overridden into your own theme. Perhaps you did not like how the addon looked, edited the template, and not realised this would then persist after the addon was removed.

Chris,

I emptied the template cache as you suggested.

I did edit a template:

Government-theme/templates_custom/OCF_MEMBER_DIRECTORY_SCREEN.tpl

to change the wording when the search results were returned.  Based on your prior posting in this thread, should I delete this template file?

Yes, this would have been the cause of your issue as you have essentially copied the addon into your theme.

Yes, that was the problem.  I deleted the file from the Government theme and then cleared the template cache and it's back to the original format:

So, I get that I've now lost the ability to search my member list, and that's just the way it is...but, if I want to play around with what is displayed as shown above, which template would you suggest I mess around with?

Thank you very much, Chris

Same template. If you can work out how the addon's template worked, you can incorporate what parts of it you want within your own.

Brilliant!  I'll give that a try using the most sophisticated of methods:  cut & paste!  And I'll see what blows up next
