It would be really handy if an items ID was included in its table listing (e.g., usergroups, members, awards). Basically, if you display a table for the "Edit" action, display the ID along with the rest of the information for that row.

What do others think?

You can look at the URL of the edit link to find it. Ideally we would rather people need not know ID's in ocPortal so that's the direction it's heading in.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks for the reply, Chris.

So, for using filters (e.g, in galleries), you'd use the gallery name instead of the ID. I'm trying this in a main_multi_content block and just can't seem to get the gallery images to display.

Filters may be a special case. For most gallery filtering you'd use the gallery codename, which you do choose yourself. I haven't read your topic about main_multi_content yet.

Be forewarned - it's a rant. But I already have some of it addressed.

I am copying the IDs displayed in the Site Tree Editor but nothing is displaying which is why I am so confused.
