Well-settled

I'm basically using the news forum as a blog.  Is there anyway to have just a snippet of the post get put up on the front page?  Not a biggy if no but I am curious.

Thanks,
Geo

The summary.

EDIT:

I shouldn't skim read. No, you can't really. You could use some Tempcode to trim off the start, but that'd cause invalid HTML and potentially very large rendering issues.

I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Related question

Sort of I guess.  I was wondering how to change the name displayed by the "Main_Forum_News" block.   IE from  "News" to something else.

Thanks
Geo

You need to edit the 'BLOCK_MAIN_NEWS' to replace usage of the 'NEWS' (if I remember correctly) language string in the title with your own text.

e.g. {!NEWS} -> Something Else

Ho, Hum!

Better check out that latest advice from Chris. I changed mine by actually changing the text in "global.ini", but that's probably storing up problems for me down the line.

Good tip, Chris.

Edit: Forget the reference to "global.ini" - I did it in the Admin CMS section, by editing the title of 'News' to read 'News & Articles of Interest'.
Edit2: Tracked down that I did edit it in an 'ini' file - it was "news.ini". Good news is that the edit to the template does precisely what I set out to do and I'm happy that the "news.ini" file is back to its pristine condition -

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Ya Chris is smart.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Well I'd know the best way to use functionality I designed ;).
The only problem with editing general lang strings like that is that you can inadvertently change lots of things at once in a way that isn't appropriate.
