Some of my usergroups are missing. Is it safe to import that table back in from a recent database backup, or would it be better to recreate them by hand?

I think that if you recreate them, new groups will have new id-s so relations with data in other tables will be broken.

Did this happen after upgrading to v9.0.5 from some other v9.0.x or earlier version? I'm asking this because it seems that in v9.0.x the table was not changed so you could import data from the backup.

Uh oh :S. I think what must have happened here is the Setup Wizard of your new satellite site was asked to delete default groups, and it found some custom ones with the expected IDs and removed them.
I will make that smarter.

As for restoring them, there's no easy answer I'm afraid other than to restore a backup or do it manually.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks, Chris. There wasn't too many of them missing so I'll just recreate them by hand, which seems to be the better option.

This is what started it.
View topic: [resolved] 9.0.5 MSN install critical error - ocPortal.com

I've really liked creating a community MSN style. Some of my users have created (programming) projects and have used the forums as their home base. Some of these projects have grown in size and have taken on their own identity and can benefit from having their own website.

With MSN, I can create a new site and use the existing forums and member base. The new site "themes" the "pulled-in" forum to make it look like it has it's own separate forum.
