Well-settled

It has became totally weird after upgrade :( I have lot of russian texts in my database and it seems they were saved with a kind of conversion because my database collation is utf8_general_ci but all russian texts are stored in weird chars there. Before 7.1.5 they displayed correctly on the site though. After 7.1.5 is installed they are displaying exactly as they store in the database. I guess new posts and other info in russian will display correct but what should I do with old ones? :) Is there any way to autoconvert them to correct charset?

Read over the release announcement, the change is explained on here.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Sorry for being impatient :) I have done further investigation and discovered I have collation utf-8 but database server charset latin1. I've changed the config string back to latin1 (that was producing an error before) and cleared caches. Everything works now, sorry for bothering :)
