Where is the option to turn the help thing on the right off. I some how got it off while in the different settings such as when I am looking at the Administrative options and other options but not on the screen just before that.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Hi Ami!

I tried the method Chris suggested, however, all it did was move the help waaaay over to the right. It's out of view, however, horizontal scroll shows is hiding to the right. We'll have to wait for Chris to weigh in on this one.

And here's another…
if you don't like the help panel, you'll be able to open up OcCLE and type :set_value('hide_help_panel','1'); and it'll go away.

I looked for hide_help_panel in all the settings but can not find it, which is why I made this thread.
If a file has to be edited I would suggest making it a setting.
Better yet in the set up wizard ask it in there.

I was expecting it to be in Administrative options.

Not in zone editor either- I am going though one thing at a time.

I give up. It can only be done though file edits or the dos thingy and so its not a real feature yet.

I am a little disapointed so I will just uninstall 3.1 for now and go back to 3.0.17.

The reason I did not do this was not that I was ignorning you but I saw this was to be a set feature of 3.1 and if I have to do that I do not see it as a set feature.
How the heck is any one going to even know to run that commend?

Ok I gave in and used that command but I still have a little x.
Sorry I got upset I was expecting and easy way of doing it.

One reason I got upset is I m hugely anti command line because I feel its from the stone age of computer technology.

No problem Ami! Command line is actually still an integral part of working with servers and such still today. It's only Microsoft that would like to see the command line sent packing :cool:

I am even a Linux user too. I do not like using windows specially when I am doing my webmaster work.

DID you know microsoft in windows xp make resetting tcp/ip a command line command.
In the older version you needed the windows disk in the newer ones its command.

Something seems to have changed in the GLOBAL template since I implemented this. To make the feature work properly, please change line 55 of the GLOBAL.tpl template file from:

Code

      {+START,IF,{$OR,{$AND,{$IS_NON_EMPTY,{$GET,panel_right}},{$NEQ,{$GET,right_width},0}},{$GET,helper_panel}}}
to simply:

Code

      {+START,IF,{$NEQ,{$GET,right_width},0}}

Nope!

Doesn't do it for me. Thought it might have been the omission of 'px' from the '0' bit. but it isn't that either. Ctrl+Alt+Shift doesn't do the trick either. Guess I'll live with the help box; it doesn't offend me as much as it seems to offend others!!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

It does not offend me it goes in the way.
It smashes every thing all on to the left, making it harder to work and find things.

ah ok, for me it just makes the system harder to run and harder to find what I am looking for. Like right now I am looking for where to edit the top menu but have yet to find it but it should be a new feature of 3.1 which I have but am still unable to find it.

I believe I posted an example when I announced the feature. This is an extension of the ocPortal architecture of the menu and Tempcode systems, rather than something represented in the administrative interface. To enable it you need to place a block reference to the menu block in the TOP template, in place of the existing Tempcode for the hardcoded zone menu.

The help panel disabling feature was coded by changes to the GLOBAL template. If you've overridden that template then those changes would not be active.
The key line is:

Code

{$SET,right_width,{$?,{$IS_EMPTY,{$GET,panel_right}},{$?,{$AND,{$NOT,{$VALUE_OPTION,hide_help_panel}},{$GET,helper_panel}},425px,0},14.3em}}
(from a previous line that also started {$SET,right_width.
It works by analysing a setting (hide_help_panel) and only allows a width for the right "panel" if that setting isn't on (or if there is a right hand Comcode panel rather than a right hand help panel). The line I fixed earlier in this topic works with this, so that it won't show the right "panel" at all if it has not been assigned a width.
