Evening all

took some time, but finally decided to upgrade my 2.6.2 to V3.

so, silly question of the day is:

what should be done, what should be avoided, etc.
you've gone through it already, no reason why I should fall in the same traps if it can be avoided.

next,

how do i clone my old site?
would like to clone it first, then upgrade.
purpose here isn't just to be awkward, but having two languages on the thing, i expect quite a bit of damage.
having the clone available would help spot the differences.

Thx

Marc.

You can use the 'ocPortal merge' importer to import data from an existing site; it supports merging with version 2.6 as well as 3.0. If you merge into a fresh site it's virtually the same as cloning.

So all you need to do is install 3 somewhere, go to the import feature, and choose the merge importer, and merge from your old database. You then have your v3 site, and your old 2.6 site remains.

I passed all the 2.6 lang packs through a filter when 3 was released, to update them. But there have been a few changes since 3.0.0 so I'll do it again for French tomorrow. This'll make your 'job' a lot easier.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
