Just curious if there is a way to change the normal message header that is 'view image'  that get's posted to the 'comments'  forum when someone comments on an image in a gallery…

Maybe at least use the name of the person that owns the photo that is commented on or something..

it get's kinda bland with just 'view image'  and a comment being the file number like below:

I think the way the first comment is posted (currently a spacer post) is changing in v8. Hopefully, it also addresses this issue.

I guess I will go into the code and see what I can do.  It seems if they are commenting on an image, the info about who uploaded the image would be there to put in the title, and it  would be easy to put the image in the automatic post.

Since gallery entries are gaining titles in v8, I'm hoping the link text will be the title instead of "View image".

would be nice.

But not sure I want to sit and wait for v8.

I just started looking through the code… it's gonna take a bit to even figure out where the code that takes a new comment and posts it to the forum is…

I don't think v8 is that far off based on this comment by Chris:View topic: Sponsorship for Feature Tracker item #63: Multi-categorization - ocPortal

Well, that's the beta so it will probably be a few months longer.

But if you look at the commit log in github, it is pretty clear that Chris has been busy tying up loose end - lots of "misc fixes", "small fixes", "cleanup", etc.

I'm anxious for v8 to drop so they can start working on a couple of items features that I co-sponsored.

can v8 be downloaded so it can be looked at/played with?     And will it be an easy upgrade?

I have loads of custom stuff I put in mine, so loosing that stuff might not be good.

Chris,

If you read this, where is the code that takes a comment posted and posts it as a forum post?

You can download v8 from the github repository: https://github.com/chrisgraham/ocPortal

My guess is that v8 may not be a simple update if you have a lot of customization because it seems to have touched a lot of code. But that's just my guess.

Still, the upgrader does a good job of identifying the code you've customized if you've made the changes to the files in *_custom. With that and a good Diff tool, you can probably get sorted in a reasonable time.

i tried v8 in a different directory.  It doesn't run… if I go into safe mode it comes up..  main screen left panel menus missing it says.

Still gotta try to find the code that posts comments from galleries into the forums.

Any ideas where to look??   ;)

All comment writing should be going through the common function in \sources\main_comments.php, although I don't know specifically how its getting invoked for galleries.

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S / Galaxy S II ? If so, why not check out my ScreenFree FM Radio .

searched for 'ocf_make_post' since that seems to be the main function to generate a post.   No dice finding a connection to comments or gallery with that.

then I found '_helper_make_post_forum_topic' which, i dunno, might be part of something… searched for where that was used…  nothing..

hmm..

Right, sorry about that. Comments are being treated as feedback, so it should be sources\feedback.php

I just did a quick-and-dirty test to confirm. Note the addition of custom text in this image:

And that change was made in the do_comments() function.

ah yes, thanks!

and depending on if you comment on a gallery, image or blog, it sends '$self_title' as what it is… so I can go to that source and start working on it.
