After unticking 'Single public zone' in options and going to the front page, I get…
Critical error - bailing out

This is an error that has been elevated to critical error status because it occurred during the primary error mechanism reporting system itself (possibly due to it occuring within the standard output framework). It may be masking a secondary error that occurred before this, but was never output - if so, it is likely strongly related to this one, thus fixing this will fix the other.
Non-closed brace or directive in template on line 1
Details here are intended only for the website/system-administrator, not for regular website users.
If you are a regular website user, please let the website staff deal with this problem.

Depending on the error, and only if the website installation finished, you may need to edit the installation options (the info.php file).

ocProducts maintains full documentation for all procedures and tools. These may be found on the ocPortal website. If you are unable to easily solve this problem, we may be contacted from our website and can help resolve it for you.

What's the contents of your pages/comcode_custom/EN/start.txt and site/pages/comcode_custom/EN/start.txt files?

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Examples of things that could cause it…

Missing directive end:

Code

{+START,1}

Missing closing brace:

Code

{$USERNAME

No start.txt in site/pages/comcode_custom/EN/

I had been mucking around with some of Harry's code much earlier…

Expand: pages/comcode_custom/EN/start.txt pages/comcode_custom/EN/start.txt

After reading your reply I realized had forgotten I still had that code for the front page when I unticked the 'Single public zone'.

So I decide to restore back to the original code from the clean install…

Expand: pages/comcode_custom/EN/start.txt pages/comcode_custom/EN/start.txt

I tried unticking that option again. Still got the same error.

A little history on my test site install…
I was starting to get too much crud built up during V7 and v8. I decided to clone my v8.1.3 and upgraded that. Then I did a clean install of v9 and imported the upgraded db from the upgraded v8.1.3(v9) to the clean install of v9. All went well and I needed to bring in some missing items/pages and do a little cleanup. All well so far.

Now I'm just learning, trying out different things, and getting used to the new version when I decided to try out the separate welcome page.

So I may have botched something during the Frankensteining of my test site.  :cyborg:  :sinner:

Whats interesting is if I'm at /site/index.php?page=start everything seems to work except clicking on a link that will take me to  /index.php?page=start, that is what throws the error.

Also I've noticed the welcome page is a copy of my front page but without some of the css applied to it.

Hmm, maybe it is something else. If you put &keep_fatalistic=1 on the URL it should give a stack trace, could you share it?

lol! This is an issue with upgrading from v7 to v8 that you must have not seen due to single public zone being on.

Edit the root_website menu and change the recommend link's pagelink to:
_SEARCH:recommend:from={$SELF_URL&,0,0,0,from=<null>}

I love stack traces, very helpful.

That worked!  :thumbs:

That also made me wonder if my v8.1.3 site would do the same thing. I unticked that option and… no error. It worked as it should. So I took a look at the root_website menu and there were two "Recommend site" links there. One with a good entry and one with the bad entry. Interesting.

I'm off to find more weird bugs. There has got to be one that stumps you.  :lol:
