Test installing ocPortal in subfolder of site that already has SMF 2 running

Greetings,

As indicated in my Registration Questions add-on suggestion, I decided to test out the latest ocPortal to see if it was indeed better against spam bots and such. I wanted to test it on a live server so that spam bots might find it, but I don't want to put my site members through it and find things not working. Besides, if everything works fine I want to be able to do the migration without disrupting their posting activity too much.

Anyway, I have ocPortal uploaded to http://legendsofnorova.com/ocportal. I point the browser to install.php and I get the 500 Internal Server Error.

I checked my php settings. I don't see mod_security or th suphp stuff indicated in the "offical post" on 500 Server Errors. I am thinking that maybe SMF's .htaccess is causing the issue, but I can't find anything in it that would.

So, suggestions? Ideas? Solutions?

Thanks, in advance.

Have you checked the Apache error log?

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

The only thing I am getting out of that is Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /usr/local/apps/apache/www/

I'm going to double-check permissions.
